Understanding the Law of Attraction

The law of attraction is a powerful concept that can help you radically change your life, but learning how to apply it and actually attract your desires can be challenging.

There is a lot of conflicting advice out there, some of which can be downright misleading.  Here is an easy way to get exactly what you want in life by applying this universal law.

The law of attraction is about two things: Your perspective and your objective.

Your Perspective
Your perspective is the way that you look at the world around you, it is about your experience. But here is a funny thing about your perspective – it can change. More importantly, YOU can change it to suit your needs. You see, no two people have the same experience, even if they walk side by side down a street. One person may notice one thing and the other may notice something entirely different.

What you see depends upon many things – your mood, your interests, what has been going on around you and in your life recently, even the opinions of your friends and family… lots of things affect the way you look at the world.

One of the basic building blocks of the law of attraction is that you must change your perspective, you must change the way that you look at the world, so that what you see matches what you want. This isn’t as hard as it sounds. What it means is that you have to stop looking at all the things standing between where you are now and where you want to be, and start looking at the opportunities

The key thing to remember here is that your perspective is flexible and can change.

Your Objective
Your objective is the thing that you want, or your desires. You have to be really, really specific about what you want in order to get the results that will bring you there.  If you have fuzzy goals, you will get fuzzy results. You also have to be clear about the reasons ‘why’ you want to achieve each particular goal on your list.

Be sure that you want your goals for yourself and not to please someone else. Your true attraction power or manifesting ability lies in your passion to change your life. The more passionate you are, the better. Nothing dilutes your ability to attract things into your life more than going after a goal that you don’t really want.

Getting What You Want
Master these two things, your perspective and your objective, and your life will change. If you are clear about them, you will begin to understand the law of attraction and how it will help you get exactly what you want in your life.

Read any good books lately?

Here are 10 books about personal success and growth that you absolutely must read in 2011. Any one of these books can change your life… if you let it. Any one of these books can help you to see life in a new way, with a new perspective.

The ten books on this list create a virtual university of success and are full of ideas and concepts that will help you manifest your desires and shape your life.

But these books alone won’t change your life – only you can do that.

The old saying, “Knowledge is power,” is only half true, because knowledge alone won’t change your life. It is the application of the knowledge you acquire that transforms you and lifts you to the next level of success.

In other words, it is what you do after you read that great book that matters. So go ahead, pick one of the personal success books from the list below and READ it. Then go out and begin applying what you just learned.

10 Books about Personal Success and Growth

Note: This list is in no particular order. They are all powerful books and they all are just waiting for you to explore and enjoy and IMPLEMENT!

1. “The Success Principles – How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be” by Jack Canfield. Containing a powerful collection of success principles, and written in Jack’s friendly and witty style, this book definitely deserves a spot in your personal success library.

2. “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. The classic work that everyone refers to, but few have actually read. Do yourself a favor and read this book. Yes, the writing is a little dated and some of the examples Mr. Hill uses don’t really fit modern society, but the core teachings of this book have endured for decades.

3. “Goals” by Brian Tracy. Probably the definitive book on goals and goal setting. Anything and everything you need to know about goals and how to achieve them.

4. “The Power of Intention” by Dr. Wayne Dyer. In this best-selling book, which was also a PBS television special, Dr Dyer explores the power that your intention has on every aspect of your life and your well-being.

5. “Who Moved My Cheese?” by Spencer Johnson. An inspiring little book about the inevitability of change and the benefits of learning to adapt. A small book with a big lesson.

6. “Awaken the Giant Within” By Anthony Robbins. Reaching your true potential and defining your life are the hallmarks of Anthony Robbins, and ‘Awaken the Giant Within’ will do just that and more.

7. “Ask and It Is Given” by Esther and Jerry Hicks. Esther Hicks and the teachings of Abraham are hands down the best source to learn about the power of the law of attraction. Some people are put off by Esther and Abraham, but I say, don’t confuse the message with the messenger.

8. “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. Another ‘must read’ book for anyone who is serious about making changes in their life. Learning to live in the present moment frees you from so many of your challenges and obstacles, because many of your struggles really exist only in your past or your future. When you understand the power of now, you gain new insights into your path and your life.

9. “Loving What Is” by Byron Katie. Who would you be without your story? So much of your life is just a story, its not really true, its just something you made up.  When you are able to see the truth about the stories you tell yourself you will see your life in a whole new light.

10. “See You at the Top” by Zig Ziglar. When it comes to motivation, Zig Ziglar is the king. He will have you fired up and ready to succeed by the time you finish this book. In fact, you’ll wonder why you waited so long to feel so good about yourself!

There you have it! A reading list for 2011 that will give you all the tools you need to explode your results this year. Just pick one and get started. Don’t put it off, don’t wait until you get around to it.

Remember, it is not about how big or impressive your list of books to read is, it is about what you have learned and what you have become!

The law of attraction is a two-way street!

You don’t have to look far to see a perfect example of how the law of attraction works – all you need to do is to take a look around your life right now!

When you do, you will see exactly what you have been manifesting up to this point. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

If you are anything like I was, you are quick to take the credit for manifesting the ‘good’ stuff in your life, and you are probably just as quick to avoid taking responsibility for those parts of your life that you don’t like.

This is a deadly trap, and one that snares a lot of people who begin applying the law of attraction in their lives. The truth is that the law of attraction is a two-way street. You create everything in your life by placing and holding your attention upon it. When you get good results you are happy and accept the fact that you created this result. But when you get results that are less than good, or less than you expected, you are unhappy, and you allow your ego to step in and take control for a moment. You tell yourself, “This couldn’t be because of something I did, it must be the fault of ______.” And you blame something outside of yourself.

Now, it is true that sometimes things happen out there in the world that seem beyond your control, but even when that is the case, it is your reaction to that event that either allows you to grow or to remain stuck. In either case you attract what you focus on.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that the law of attraction is only about getting good results. It is not. It is only about getting results. Period.

In the town called DESIRE, YOU determine the results you get by deciding which side of the law of attraction street you want to walk down. You can choose one side and walk toward all those things you want to create and manifest in your life… or you can walk down the other side and stay focused on your problems and keep blaming the world for your hardships… and keep manifesting more of the same.

Me? I will be on the side heading toward my dreams, only I won’t be walking, I’ll be running!

Are you ready to apply the law of attraction?

Want to know the secret of the law of attraction?

Of course you do! We all love secrets. We love the mystery, we love the thrill of having information that not everyone else has. It makes us feel special. It makes us feel like we are tapped into a special group of people who are somehow different… or even better than everyone else.

This is the easy part because so much information about the law of attraction is readily available today, just waiting for you to grab it. The bookstores are full of it. But information alone is not enough!

I’ve found that the problem is seldom that clients don’t have enough information… usually it is quite the opposite, they have so much information that they don’t know where to start. They suffer from overload. They are so worried about the process that they get distracted from their original goals.

Has this ever happened to you?

Success will come when you release your need to master some secret technique and instead focus on the actions that will move you toward your desired outcome. Once you forget about trying to become ‘good’ at the law of attraction, or becoming good at manifesting, once you let go…

… that’s when the magic happens. That is when you will see your reality beginning to align with your desires.

It’s a process, and the process only works when you leave it alone. Remember, a watched pot never boils!

The message in this week’s law of attraction video is a simple one: You are in control of your direction in life.

I love it when Esther and Abraham talk about trying to paddle upstream. I’ve been guilty of this myself, and every time that I notice my resistance to the flow of life and I stop and change my thinking, things turn around pretty quickly.

Sure there are lots of things that can distract you from your desires, and you can find yourself resisting the very changes that you want to manifest… but in the end, you will find that you, and you alone, are the one that chooses your path.

This is key to manifesting your desires with the law of attraction. Stop resisting your own efforts!

You resist for two main reasons – either you fear the coming change or you aren’t fully committed to the desire you are trying to manifest and you are hanging on to your old familiar ways.

In either case, as soon as you recognize the problem, you can take steps to correct it and get back on track.

You control your own stream of manifesting, and your power comes from being aligned with your desires and being in the flow, not from resisting them or allowing yourself to be distracted by all that stuff that is ‘upstream’.

Sometimes you will look back upstream and see all those missed opportunities in your life, all those wonderful chances that you let slip by, and you desperately want to go back and do it again. This is resisting.

There are many more opportunities to manifest your desires downstream! Downstream is the whole universe just waiting for you to step forward and claim what you want.

Set your sights on your biggest, grandest dream and never look back!

I told you! I have always loved the humor in Abraham-Hicks messages. They have a way of getting us to see through the madness that we create around ourselves, and to take ourselves a little less seriously. They cause us to step back and realize how simple life is supposed to be and how naturally we can live our lives in harmony with our grandest desires.

You can do the same, right now, simply by choosing to see the humor in your own life, by choosing to see how silly some of your antics look from the outside.

Here is your Sunday law of attraction video. This week, Bob Proctor, one of the stars of The Secret talks about your belief systems.  Listen closely as he describes his own awakening, when he learned that the key thing he had done to turn his life around was simply to change what he believed.

Are your current beliefs helping your move toward your dreams?

Or are they holding you back and preventing you from reaching out and claiming those things that you desire?

The problem for some people is that they believe that they can’t change their beliefs… that beliefs are somehow locked in forever.

Nothing is further from the truth!

Your beliefs are constantly being developed and refined based on how you evaluate your life and your world.

Happy Sunday! Here is your Sunday morning law of attraction video. I recently stumbled across this wonderful video featuring Marianne Williamson and just knew that I had to share it with you.

Truly, this is the path that we all seek to be on. To be open to the wonders of life around us, to be in the flow, to be part of the creation process.

It starts each morning. Each morning you have a choice. You can either choose to let yesterday’s garbage ruin any possibilities that today might bring…

or you can choose to start your day fresh, energized, and ready to move forward on the path you have chosen…

The choice is yours!

Each day brings you a new opportunity to have a GREAT DAY. You simply have to decide to take advantage of it.

It is easy to feel like the choice is not yours to make, that all these terrible things are going on in your life, but the truth is that all that stuff can only effect you to the degree that you allow it to.

Just as a primary lesson in the law of attraction is to learn to allow your desires to come into your life, you also have to learn to NOT allow yesterday’s garbage to stink up today.

You see, you choose what to allow into your life through your attention and your focus. How you react to what happens around you sets the tone for your day.

As Marianne says in this video:

“If you are involved in a deeper inquiry, if you are involved in a more reflective life, if you are involved in prayer and meditation and serious spiritual seeking, that stuff just recedes. Its there, its there to dance with and to have fun with, but its not there to make you suffer.”

Here’s to dancing and having fun!
