The Law of Distraction and the Future of Your Dreams

distraction

Are you distracted from success?

Are you attracting success? Or are you distracted from success?

I know, you don’t think that you are distracted from the success you seek, but your results in life might tell a different story if you are honest with yourself.

You see, a few moments of concentrated effort toward your dreams can’t possibly make up for the hour after hour of confusion, worry, doubt, and second guessing that form your average day.

Start adding those days together and guess what? You find you are not getting

This is a common problem, not just with the law of attraction, but with almost all forms of attempted self growth. The problem is perpetuated by teachers who, in an effort to help you avoid struggle, advise that small consistent action, taken everyday, will be enough to transform your life.

This sounds great on paper, after all if you can improve your life just 1% each day, you will soon see amazing growth, right?

Wrong!

9 times out of 10 you will still find yourself struggling to achieve your goals.

Why is this?

Distraction!

The primary reason for your continued struggle is that even by taking tiny steps it is still far too easy to become distracted from your goals and dreams. Far too easy to think that you’ve done enough for today. Far too easy to wonder if maybe you haven’t done enough today!

In your effort to make that 1% improvement each day you begin looking around your life for little 1% changes that you can make, and at first that works out fine. But sooner or later you reach a point where you have to make a big change. Bigger than 1%. But big changes are scary, so you put it off and go in search of another change that you can make to satisfy your 1% quota.

Bang – your are distracted from your dream.

But don’t get the wrong idea – it’s not about the size of your actions.

What determines your success at creating meaningful changes in your life is your commitment to…

…making those changes.

You see at the end of the day, or the end of the week, or the end of the month, and especially at the end of your life, it’s not going to be the small bursts of effort that make your life what it is.

Because even the sum of all those little daily efforts won’t equal the sum of all your daily non-effort.

“But Bob, I have to work full-time, so there goes 8 hours (or more) of time right out the window, plus I have family and other obligations that take up my time. Are you telling me that I have to focus on my dream more than all those other things in order to manifest it?”

No. It’s not about the time you spend on your dreams either. (Although at first, time is a good indicator of where you are spending your energy.) It is easy to fall into this trap, wondering if you are spending enough time on your dreams.

Bang – another distraction.

(Tip: If you find yourself wondering whether you should work on your dream or do something else… work on your dream!)

The opposite problem is this idea that, just as you might need to schedule time to work on your dream, you also need to schedule time to relax and unwind. After all, you need to relax and unwind, right?

That’s true… if you are really relaxing and really unwinding. Unfortunately, this is usually just an excuse to plop in front of the television and turn your mind off.

Ask around. You will find that the more successful a woman or man becomes, the less they allow themselves to be distracted by things like that. They just don’t fit into their overall plan for their life.

Here’s the bottom line. Regardless of the time you spend, or the size of the changes you make, or anything else, what matters most is your commitment to making a change.

You know in your heart that this is true, yet there are times when you talk yourself out of taking action, perhaps because you believe that you’ve done enough today, or that you’ve worked hard enough today, or that there is always tomorrow.

Bang – you are distracted from your dream.

You have to ask yourself, “A year from now, will I be proud of the effort i made today?” “Ten years from now will my life be better or worse because of the actions I am taking today?”

Of course, only you can decide which dreams are important to you and which ones you really want to manifest into your life. And only you can decide which distractions are more important than your dreams.

Here’s a little secret that can help you avoid some of the troubles and distractions that are part of the process of growth.

Ready?

Simply choose your dream.

That’s it!

You see, all your distractions occur because you haven’t yet decided to make that dream a reality. Sure, you’ve decided to work towards it. You’ve decided to think about it. You might even have decided to take some action on it. But until you decide that making that dream a reality is a priority in your life you will find it easy to distract yourself from making it real.

Yes, you have a job, you have time commitments, you have obligations… but guess what? You are always going to have something to blame for your failure to manifest your desires. Always.

It’s not about what you are doing in this moment. It is about what you are thinking and feeling in this moment. Because even while you are working, even while you are spending time with your spouse or children or friends, your mind is working… worrying… planning… thinking… manifesting… based upon your dominant thoughts and feelings.

Your dominant thoughts tend to be about the things that you have decided are a priority in your life.

That could be your big dream… or it could be your bills, or your bad health, or your relationship problems.

Whatever it is, those dominant thoughts have a way of permeating every aspect of your life. That’s why those pesky problems keep popping up. You’ve decided that they are important. (But you haven’t decided to resolve them.)

Now, imagine if your biggest dream was also your number one priority. That would be a switch! Thoughts about your dream would constantly be distracting you from worrying about your bills, or about your health, or about any of your other problems.

Distraction is a part of life. You will always be distracted by those things that are important to you.

The trick to manifesting your desires is to be certain that your desires are really, truly important to you.

There is no excuse for not living a full, complete life of your choosing.

All you have to do choose!

Comment Tip - Do you wonder how some people get those nifty little avatars, (the tiny picture,) next to their names? They went to http://www.gravatar.com and got one. It's a free service and is worthwhile even if you only write occasional comments on blog posts. It really helps people relate to what you write when they can put a face to your name.
