Bob Newhart Turns Self Help Industry Upside Down
No, not really. The self help industry is safe for now. But this video clip begs the question, “Should it really be that hard to solve your problems?” Maybe this video about self help oversimplifies things just a little bit… but then again… maybe not!
Enjoy this classic self improvement clip from Bob Newhart on the MadTV television show and decide for yourself!
Okay, now that you have watched the video…… what was your first reaction?
After you were done laughing that is.
Did you say something like, “If only it was that easy!”, or “I wish that were all it took!”??
Let me ask you…
What does it take for you to stop a self-destructive habit that is causing you pain?
If saying ‘STOP IT!’ to yourself is not enough… what is?
- Blaming doesn’t work.
- Complaining doesn’t work.
- Explaining doesn’t work.
All the strategy in the world won’t help you until you make a conscious decision to change.
This is a lighthearted look at solving your personal problems, and yet it touches on the very core of the self growth process.
All change comes from within.
If you look for the solutions to your problems out there in the world somewhere you are going to continue to struggle. If you take responsiblity for your life however, and make a conscious decision to change… Now you are tapping into your full potential.
What do you think? Is this skit with Bob Newhart pretty much right on the money when it comes to the majority of your ‘problems’?
Isn’t there something in your life that if you just STOP IT you will be much better off?
Go ahead. Be brave.
STOP IT!
Peace,

Bob Crawford

What can you decide to say STOP IT! to in your life? Share your ideas with us here.
As for me… I’ve decided that I will say STOP IT! to my annoying habit of swearing. There, I’ve said STOP IT! and I meant it. You can check back to see if I have stuck to my word, or maybe I’ll write a post about it. Either way, leave a comment and tell us what you are going to say STOP IT to in your own life.
Peace,
Bob

Great post Bob.
It shows that at least you don’t take yourself (or your industry) too seriously, at least I hope not.
I remember reading about a finding that if you have an emotional problem and you do nothing about it the chances are actually better that it will go away on it’s own than faster if you paid some fancy-pants counselor to help you through it.
The Self-help industry is today changing and in no small way due to the press about the James A Ray affair.
LOA is quickly (with a little luck) becoming SOL.
I’ll have to bookmark this site. I’ll be back.
